Selection of flux and welding wire for submerged arc welding of low alloy steel

(1) Selection of flux and welding wire for high strength low alloy steel

Submerged arc welding of low alloy steel is mainly used for hot rolling normalizing steel. When selecting flux and welding wire, the mechanical properties of the weld metal shall be ensured, the welding materials with the same strength as the base metal shall be select , and the impact toughness, plasticity and crack resistance of the weld metal shall be comprehensively considered. The strength of the weld metal should not be too high, usually controlled at not less than or slightly higher than the strength of the base metal, too high will lead to the reduction of the impact toughness, plasticity and crack resistance of the weld metal.

For Quenched and tempered steel, in order to avoid the decrease of toughness and plasticity in the heat affected zone, the coarse wire, high current and multi wire submerged arc welding are generally not used, and the mixed flux of ceramic flux 572f-6 + HJ350 (among which HJ350 accounts for 80% ~ 82%) can be used to realize the submerged arc welding of 30CrMnSiNi2A with h18crmoa welding wire.
